WHAT SHOULD I PLANT ON MY GARDEN FOR BEGINNERS

With the many options out in the market on what we can grow, it is sometimes overwhelming to know what to concentrate on. Start with the easy vegetables and flowers to grow from seed so you can learn the process and save money.

Nothing wrong with buying seedlings, I have done it and it is just as fulfilling to see the food grow and use it as part of your meal. If you want to find out more about what to start with on the Spring season, check out ‘March Gardening | SAVE MONEY & TIME! A few of my favorites for the beginner gardeners are; Salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, Kales are amazing!, snap peas, beans, zucchini and sweet peppers. These are all pretty straightforward to grow from seed and they will provide you with an amazing harvest.

When it comes from flowers to grow from seed, include in your garden the ones that the pollinators love, edible flowers and others that works as great pest deterrent. I wrote different post that will help you with different flowers for your garden; nasturtiums, calendula, marigolds, sweet peas and zinnias.

But hang one! Have you ever gown a vegetable that become a feature element in your garden? You need to try this, it is so beautiful in the garden. You won’t believe how easy it is.

Tomatoes

The food I always enjoy growing, because of ease of direct sowing, are radishes and carrots. Carrots are so much fun to grow because of the variety in the market. You will love growing them!

As you design your garden also think about the food I would like to preserve for the months I can’t grow it. Freezing food and other very simple methods are important to learn as you grow as a gardener to have the least amount of food waste.

But remember that color is everything! You must consider color when you select your seeds, it makes for the most beautiful harvests!

WHAT A BEGINNER GARDENER NEEDS TO KNOW?

A successful garden is the one that works for you and not the one that looks good to others. Details are important when it comes to a garden; color, soil, sun, drainage, climate, pests, etc.

When designing your garden, not only think of paint or flowers for color. Think of the vegetables themselves as the color in the garden

Sometimes the pests can be a little worrisome or frustrating. I wrote a post that guides you through organic pest control, just as I practice in my own garden. Consider preventing pests and if you need to then treat pest organically.

But at the end of the day, if you planned your garden and designed it for success, gardening will be ideal and just right for your family.

I love organic gardening not only because of the food that I eat and how it is impacted, but also apply this practice to my flowers as well so that I won’t harm the pollinators in the garden. You need them to pollinate your vegetable.

Check out how to attract pollinators in the garden and how best to keep the population alive and well.

Everyone knows that dahlias are my absolute passion and I get a lot of question on why they don’t bloom for some gardeners. I wrote a post that will help you understand how to get your dahlias blooming and thriving.

Do not think you don’t have enough space to create your oasis. You can grow so many flowers and vegetables in a tiny space.

You can grow herbs and flowers in innovative ways. A great, budget-friendly way to grow herbs is by using vertical grow bags. This is my favorite way to dress up my wall and such a beautiful look you get with the different herbs.

Develop the process right, it does not start with the soil, it starts with you. You will be so happy to enjoy a space and working on gardening chores that are very much an extension of you.
