I have been preparing little areas to help me get through the fall and winter months. Can’t wait to share with you some ways that I get the cozy vibe going.

The BEST ways to create a COZY HOME is to integrate objects that have personal meaning,

WHY CREATING A COZY HOME DECOR IS SO IMPORTANT TODAY?

In order to understand the reason to Create a Cozy Home, I must tell you a story; I created ‘Cocoon Raw’ because, as we all know, 2020 was the year of staying home. I had the need to rethink the space I lived in and create areas that made me feel nurtured and recalled memories with connections to family and friends that I did not get to see.

HOW CAN I DECORATE MY HOME COZY?

Add elements to the space that provide that warm feeling to the space for you and your guest.

Some ways to accomplish this cozy fee are:

  1. Include in all you do the one thing that you want to feel connected to? (for me is nature)
  2. Memories are amazing to add to the space to emote a mood. This could be your last vacation spot, photos or decor.
  3. Your country of origin make you feel connected. You can think of portraits, maps and even a throw that had the color that connects you.
  4. A place where you once lived and meant so much to you. Add a plant, an artifact or even books about the area. A spot you feel most connected too? A period in life that lives embedded in your memories.
  5. Plants that feel comforting and add drama. Large leaf plants add so much to a room, such as the banana plant or fig.
  6. Add a specific fragrance with essential oils, candles or flowers. Even old books add so much!
  7. Include an art piece that moved you. Black and whites or sepia tones, as well as hand sketches makes the space feel very personal.
  8. Incorporate Books you can’t forget about and will bring conversation when someone visits.
  9. Add that layer that speaks of your favorite hobby; tea collecting, crafting, reading, knitting, etc.

WHAT DECORATING STYLE IS COZY?

Understand what the space you are designing is used for in order to Create a Cozy Aesthetic. But a layer I cannot do without is adding candles to a space and the most amazing fragrances.

My best hack is to use battery operated, remote candles thorughout the house. I love waking up in the morning and turning them on. I only have one real candle going and some incense to have that comforting smell in the house.

But there are things you can also do to make a cozy home interior.

  • Cooking alone, baking is a great one I have included in my life the past couple of year. A game changer for me!
  • Create a Family Gathering Space
  • Create a corner to read or write, on your journal, with a cup of tea
  • An inviting spot to just sit by the fire.
  • A space to prepare your cup of tea or coffee

WHAT MAKES AN INTERIOR DESIGN COZY?

You don’t need words to create a feeling for a cozy home aesthetic. If this is something you love, please don’t let me stop you. Each of us have our style and you should follow what you love.

But hear me out, because when we design to define the function. a fancy way to say that we design to sell the visitor on an ‘Experience’.

We don’t need words to accomplish this, we want to create a ‘Mood’, a “Memory’. We use words to provide wayfinding, pointing someone to where they are going. This makes for a transactional type of move, not an emotional one.

One of the most powerful emotional connections we make is to color.

You know where you are when you see color!

Introduce texture by bringing decorative pillows into your seating areas. The sofa can be styled in so many ways, but layering that plush throw creates so much softness.

Create an Area in your Kitchen that transforms for Gathering.
  • TRANSFORMATIVE CORNER: A cutting board creates the framework for a vignette. It will create a unique corner on your island that feels like the gathering spot and you can decorate according to the seasons or holidays.
  • LAYERING: On one side you can keep a vignette of your favorite plants on a vintage stool and the other a cluster of your cherished items.
  • A COOKING PREPPING AREA: Create a corner that brings focus on the cooking ritual in your culture in the kitchen. Pestle and mortar and very important to ours and they become display areas for my air plants, when not in use.
  • VINTAGE: Look for vintage cutting boards, this brings a lived in feeling that makes cooking a cozy experience.
