Dahlia Flowers Season | BLOOMS THAT STOLE MY HEART!
Dahlia flowers season delights you and they bloom from July to early fall when warm enough. Dahlias begin growing when planted outdoors when the soil is warm enough, around 60-70 degrees. They begin blooming usually in July if the temperature is warm enough. Dahlias bloom all the way through November, until the first frost. Stems become weaker and will begin to get weak and may bend in September as the weather cools off.

I. WHAT MONTH DO DAHLIAS BLOOM
I am going to get personal here because my garden is not just some piece of soil, it is the paper to my colorful watercolors. This is exactly how my dahlias felt this year. I will give you a sneak peek into my dahlias and why I grew mostly pom poms this year throughout this post.
These beauties won my heart!
Most commonly dahlias begin blooming in July. The month when dahlias bloom could vary from zone to zone and it is determined by the weather. I could say the zone, but keep in mind that the weather has been crazy for so many of us.
Dahlias usually start emerging from the ground in late spring, when the ground is 60-10 degrees. These beauties begin blooming when it is warm enough, usually in July. But here is the catch; how much sun you get, how unusually cool is the weather, or how much rain impacts the when.
For me this year in the PNW our dahlias began blooming at the end of July and most of them in August. This had to do with mostly that I did not have enough sun hours in the area where I was growing them. It didn’t warm up until July, rain was a thing through June this year.
I don’t want you to be disappointed if yours are not blooming when you expect in a dahlia flowers season. You may need to be patient and wait for the right conditions.
II. HOW LONG DO DAHLIAS BLOOM THROUGH DAHLIA FLOWERS SEASON
Are you ready, this is the best thing about dahlias. The bloom extravaganza will keep going until the first frost. You can have blooms for over 100 days to 120 depending on the zone, current weather, and how much sun it is getting!
How long you can get blooms is the greatest aspect of Dahlias. This is the best for creating flower arrangements since so many of the other flowers have been done with blooming well before.
Do keep in mind that as the weather cools, the stems will begin to get weak and bend. But you still can use these beautiful blooms, I do!
III. CAN DAHLIAS BLOOM IN SEPTEMBER
I usually place my dahlias outdoors around April or May, depending on how warm it is that year, after the last frost. But keep in mind that I give them a head start indoors. The dahlias bloom a couple of months after planting which makes it July. Since you have about 120 days of blooming, you can get blooms through October and November. Blooms will continue until the first frost.

IV. HOW MANY TIMES DO DAHLIAS BLOOM IN THE SEASON
Get ready to enjoy the grandeur of this flower!
These beauties are a never-ending show that blooms throughout the season. As long as you deadhead your spent flowers, you will continue to get flowers throughout the season. Deadheading will encourage more blooms.

I treat my dahlias as though I am a groupie and they are the Star. They get the star treatment and sometimes I have to let one go since I have a small garden in order to try a new one.
This year I concentrated on smaller dahlias and not so many dinnerplate dahlias. I wanted to experiment to see which I wanted to have next year as I grow more types of cutting flowers from seed.
a. Crichton Honey Dahlia
The colors on these dahlias are incredible! A peach band with a yellow accent that feels like a drink of summer.
b. Decorative American Dahlia
This dahlia is not as round, but the colors make up the flat look. It is a beautiful pink peach tone with a yellow orange accent that gives it so much dimension.
c. Romantic Mix Dahlia
You get so much from this collection! Usually, I don’t like this cactus-looking dahlia, but this one is beautiful. I love how it varied from this soft pink to completely white, depending on the tuber. And my favorite is the white with a lavender hue as an accent. They do have a romantic feel to them and they provide so many blooms at once!
d. Peach Pink Dahlia
The colors are stunning! The petals are larger than your typical pom pom and it has a flatter look. The elegant almost copper-rich pink accent on this dahlia creates so much dimension.
e. Peaches Dahlia
This is the winner this season! It is prolific, and the petals are perfection, with each one having this light tip that makes it sparkle. And can I tell you how round it is? Stunning!
f. Doris Dora Dahlia
If you love soft-looking dahlias with a feminine touch, this is it! The soft pink on this, though bright, looks soft and delicate. It is just the perfect dahlia if you like color but don’t like the super bright dahlias. The soft peach brings the brightness of the pink down.
g. Flor De Milena Dahlia
This dahlia reminds me of peach-pink dahlia, but it is less peach and more of a pink hue. The petals are smaller and a lot more compact of a flower head.

V. BIG AND BOLD DINNER PLATE DAHLIAS OR THE POM POM PLAYFUL DAHLIAS?
I am here to say that both have their place, but I must tell you what I find to be the pros and cons for each one. It is almost like we are about to have this debate about who is better. But no, it is all about who captures your heart. Which is your favorite?

Here is a breakdown you should know if you are going to start growing dahlias and are going to begin ordering tubers:
A. Dinnerplate Dahlias Pros and Cons

| Big blooms that steal the garden show and can make your head spin. Blooms can be the size of your head. | Need space to really do well and be able to grow fully. |
| A lot of colors or values of color within each bloom. | Select your source to purchase carefully because you can get one that has a color you do not like. These are so large that they will stand out in your garden color scheme, so be careful. |
